DR Voice Type Support

How do I turn on the keyboard?
Settings app → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → DR Voice Type. Then tap DR Voice Type in that list and turn on Allow Full Access (needed for voice only). In any app, hold or tap the globe key to switch to DR Voice Type.
Why does the app open when I tap the mic?
iOS doesn't let keyboards use the microphone, so the DR Voice Type app opens for a moment to start listening. Go back to what you were writing (the "<" link at the top left, or swipe right along the bottom edge) and keep talking. The session stays on for the length you choose in Settings, so you only do this once.
How do I stop listening?
Tap "Mic off" in the keyboard. The session also ends on its own after the length set in Settings.
The cleanup isn't changing much
The free version uses basic cleanup (fillers, "scratch that", spoken punctuation). With Pro, cleanup uses your iPhone's built-in AI when it's available and turned on (Settings app → Apple Intelligence & Siri). DR Voice Type → Settings → Cleanup shows which one is active. For the most accurate cleanup, Pro lets you paste your own Claude API key under "Upgrade: Claude AI polish".
What's free and what's Pro?
Free: the full keyboard, swipe typing and next-word suggestions, plus your first 1,000 words of voice dictation with basic cleanup. Pro is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that adds unlimited dictation and AI cleanup. Already bought Pro on another device? Tap Restore Purchase in Settings.
Where do I get a Claude API key?
At console.anthropic.com → API Keys. Add a little credit to your Anthropic account; a dictation usually costs well under a cent.
Why does the app download about 450 MB?
That's Parakeet, the speech-recognition model that turns your voice into text on your iPhone. It downloads once, by itself, over Wi-Fi (never on cellular); you can see the progress in Settings → Recognition. Until it's done, dictation still works using Apple's on-device recognizer.
How do I get names and work terms spelled right?
Add them in Settings → Dictionary. They're used for dictation, swipe typing and suggestions (type the first letters and tap the name). If a name still comes out wrong, fix it with the DR Voice Type keyboard right after dictating and it learns the correct spelling. With the DR Voice Type Mac app, your Dictionary and Snippets stay the same on both through iCloud.
How do I dictate in Bahasa Indonesia?
Open the DR Voice Type app → Settings → Language → Bahasa Indonesia, and tap Download (a 632 MB speech model, downloaded once). After that, the language button on the keyboard switches between English and Bahasa Indonesia with one tap — or just say “switch English” or “switch Indonesian” on its own. In Settings → Quick language switch you can pick which languages the button goes through. For the best cleanup in Bahasa Indonesia, add your Claude key (the phone's built-in AI doesn't support Indonesian yet).
My dictation didn't get typed. Where is it?
Open the DR Voice Type app: your last dictation is at the top with a Copy button, and older ones are under History. On the keyboard, the ↺ button types the last dictation again.
The keyboard doesn't show up in some apps
Password fields always use Apple's keyboard, and some work-managed apps block other keyboards. That's set by iOS or your organization, not by DR Voice Type.
Privacy
See the privacy policy. In short: no accounts, no tracking, audio is never saved, and everything stays on your phone unless you add your own Claude key.
Swipe typing powered by FUTO Swipe.
